James Kelly’s new gallery has now opened in Durno, in the heart of Aberdeenshire.

The area is called Garioch (pronounced “Geery”), known for its vast open golden fields of wheat during the summer months, and for the deep rolling hills of white snow in the winter.  The land around James’ gallery is of as much importance as the frames on the walls inside the gallery.  They both complement each other.

Your journey starts as soon as you leave the A96 at Pitcaple and take the turning for Durno.  The three minute drive to the gallery flows though beautiful, open farmland.  As you arrive in the quaint village of Durno (only 17 houses in total) and turn the corner you will see the long, slim, over one hundred year old white building that is Gordon Court, home of the James Kelly Gallery.  There is a large parking area to the rear (please take the second turning on the left).

 You open your door and step out of your vehicle, to the fresh open air.  Venture down the steps and walk alongside the building, taking in the shape and texture, and feel the history of the structure.  You will then come to the front door of the gallery (but if you stop briefly before entering you might just hear the chickens across the road laughing at you, I am sure of it!).  As you enter, you will instantly be taken by surprise to see the size of the room, which is positively T.A.R.D.I.S. like!

 The warm and inviting environment has a large selection of work by James Kelly, and other contributing artists, hanging on the walls, giving you but a mere taste of what the beautiful countryside in this area, and beyond, has to offer.  Images are displayed in different formats including acrylic, aluminium and traditionally framed

prints.  The numerous, but well spaced shelves are filled with prints that cover all sorts of photography including animal, macro, landscapes, cityscapes, seascapes and winter scenes.  All prints are conveniently packaged and ready to purchase for you to take home.

 If you are planning to come out for a visit, please give us a call on 01467 681583, just to check that we are open and not wandering about the hills of Scotland adding to the collection!  It also allows us to make sure we can give you our full attention.  We are not your normal “retail” gallery, instead we can offer you a friendly welcome whilst leaving you to browse at your leisure.  We are on hand to answer any queries or questions you may have, to discuss the meaning or reasoning behind whatever scene you are looking at.  We also offer comfortable seating for you to look through our other products, calendars, wedding albums etc., and if you’re really lucky you may even get a cup of tea and a biscuit!
